Charity Auction Launch confirmed dates

We’ve all come along way since I asked for volunteers to paint us a SwearPig!

Back in November 2014, I had this idea to reach out to the artistic community and see if they would decorate a SwearPig for our charity launch, with 85% (changed to 90%) of proceeds going directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The response was overwhelming (and a little scary!) I had 67 enthusiastic artists want to get involved. I thought “Great! I can get 50 artists to decorate 2 Pigs each and get them numbered” Then I thought again, mainly about how much it would cost in Pigs, packaging, postage and time.” Due to starting off the business on a next to nothing budget, I opted for 10 artists painting 2 SwearPigs each.

From November to just now, I have liaised with all artists. They have all been brilliant by keeping me up to date with their progress. I have posted their progress all over our social media sites.

The results have been outstanding!

To date, I have had 19 pigs returned. It would have been 20 but 1 broke. Don’t worry! I went back to the studio and had another one made! Bless. Rachel is busy as we speak!

The auction will start on eBay on Monday 13th April 2015 at approx 7pm. Each auction will last for 3 days and end at approx 7pm on the 3rd day.

I may tweet and Facebook a little so please follow us!  🙂

Keeping manufacturing in Derbyshire

Swear Pig - The Model Maker in Stoke on Trent
Swear Pig – The Model Maker Neil, in Stoke on Trent

I keep being told that people will buy our SwearPig but that we need to drive down the manufacturing costs!

SwearPig
The original model for SwearPig, side view.

With the UK manufacturing getting smaller and smaller, I thought it would be a great idea to try to keep some manufacturing in the UK and indeed Derbyshire. I may not add very much to the GDP of the country by doing this but imagine if all entrepreneurs did do it!

I recently had a meeting with a local potter near to Belper, Derbyshire where I live. I had been speaking to some large pottery manufacturers in Stoke on Trent but wanted to try potters nearer to home.

And guess what?
He can make the SwearPig cheaper, or should that read “less expensive” ?  than a large manufacturer in Stoke on Trent! Yay for persistence! 🙂

In essence, the potter can’t do substantial numbers BUT I can at least get the ball rolling with a few bespoke designs. In that way I can tell if there is actually a market for SwearPig.

3 Little Pigs

3 SwearPigs to help save - #WriteOn

We were recently asked about our elevator pitch for SwearPig.

Gulp! I had never been asked to sum up The Ultimate Swear Box Piggy Bank before.

So, whilst I was struggling with this, I enlisted the help of a good friend who makes his living in marketing and PR. He asked me what market research I had done to date and I explained that I had been to 14 shops asking if they would stock the Piggy Bank. I had had a good response but not really enough legitimate information to launch a high quality gift-ware product.

So, in a nut shell I am going back a stage to complete an in-depth market research project.

Here is a preview of the two photos that we will be using along with our in-depth market research questions.

SwearPig – The Swear Box Piggy Bank

Been a busy bee recently.
Had meetings with pottery services in Stoke on Trent. The heart of the UK’s quality ceramics industry.
We have engaged the services of one of the country’s leading model maker who will be making the model, case and 3 part mould over the next few weeks. We’ve asked for pictures so will upload them as soon as possible.

What is SwearPig? Update

Well, quite a few things have happened over the past few months.

We have had a complete makeover, we bought a designer in and had a proper makeover done.

Here are some of the drafts where we decided on the design…

We then settled on one of the amazing designs and have now included a taster for you here

Swear Box Piggy Bank

Our completed design

We are currently looking at model makers, mould manufacturers and casing specialists.

Next will be the potter, which we have all lined up.

How to design a piggy bank

So, I started with a blank sheet of paper, well. foam actually.

The idea is for me to design and build a piggy bank from the very beginning. Once designed, I will sell them.

1. Buy some foam

The Original SwearPig2. Glue the foam to an appropriate size. I found that using lots of PVA did the trick. That is after using all manner of things from “No Nails” to flour and water.

The Original SwearPig

3. Chop your foam to an appropriate size (please ask a responsible adult to assist)

The Origianl swearPig3. Start sculpting your piggy bank to your design requirements. The example picture below took me approx 2 hours.

I will be uploading more updates as and when I have completed them.

What is SwearPig?

We will be launching our online store soon.

We gather the very best artists in the UK and get them to paint a picture on a SwearPig Piggy Bank!

You now have the chance to own a uniquely painted SwearPig at a fraction of the cost of a larger painting.

We are looking for UK based artists to partner with us on this venture.

During this period of me running around like a headless chicken, your best way of getting hold of me is the Rich Johnson Google + site.

In the meantime Like our Facebook Page and follow us on Twitter (you know you want to!)
